THE SCIENCE
Three RCTs on grounding have measured significant effects on sleep: Chevalier et al. (2012) showed normalization of the 24-hour cortisol profile in grounded subjects. Ghaly & Teplitz (2004) demonstrated reduced cortisol and improved sleep quality. Chevalier et al. (2019) showed reduced blood viscosity and inflammation markers. The proposed mechanism is electron transfer neutralizing reactive oxygen species (free radicals), reducing oxidative stress and systemic inflammation — both of which are directly linked to impaired sleep architecture and reduced slow-wave sleep.
